What You Will Be Doing
This position requires expertise in both the engineering/design and programming aspects of typical life science automation projects. The typical project consists of control panel design, PLC/visualization configuration and programming, system documentation, field instrument selection and commissioning all within the context of rigorous project specifications and requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Control panel 120/480VAC power distribution, including load and thermal calculations, SCCR calculations and component sizing
- Control panel layout, component specification (including motor control and power/ancillary components), BoM formulation and material requisitioning
- Perform designs according to UL 508A/698 standards
- I/O assignment and connection/loop drawings
- Single line/three-line drawings
- Coordinate with our panel shop to implement designs
- Develop, submit, get approval and execute control panel checkout, unwitnessed and witnessed factory acceptance tests
- Select field devices/instrumentation. Ability to development instrument data sheets is a plus
- Develop project documentation including hardware design specification, network architecture, software detailed design, FAT/SAT documents, &
- Lead all aspects of PLC logic development including but not limited to PLC I/O list, I/O configuration, communication channel configuration, PLC / HMI network block diagram, PLC address database, modular re-usable PLC code, comprehensive logic documentation, logical / easy to follow program file organization, PLC security (as required), remote access implementation, networking devices, coordination with vendor supplied equipment, etc.
- Interface with customer representative(s) to develop and present the overall control / PLC system such that it meets the requirements of project contract documents and overall system functionality.
- Develop submittals for approval by the customer of control panel designs, PLC logic, control strategies, and test procedures, as required. Test and Commission PLC / HMI systems, as part of a project team, in strict validation environments, as are normal in life science industries.
- Provide training to customer personnel on all aspects of the PLC implementation and operation. Periodic travel to project locations, as required.
What You Need for this Position
- 3+ years industrial design/PLC programming experience in the life science industries.
- Proficient in the design and programming of Rockwell Automation PLC/visualization platforms (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View ME/SE).
- Ability to design control panels in accordance with UL 508A/698 standards
Preferred Skills:
- AB/RA legacy systems (PLC5 and SLC) and PlantPAx experience is a plus
- Proficiency in the design and programming of other PLC/DCS/visualization platforms (GE, Siemens, Delta V) is a plus
- Experience programming smart network switches is a plus
- Experience in VMWare/virtualization is a plus
- BSc degree in engineering / computer science is a plus but not required
